Isuzu Continues Market Domination as Truck Sales Break Records

The heavy vehicle sales results for 2024 have been released by the Truck Industry Council and it is déjà vu for the leading brand in total sales, Isuzu Trucks. With models across the light, medium and heavy-duty segments, this Japanese brand offers solutions for many operators. Solutions which can be extremely affordable with the right loan. Isuzu Trucks has led heavy vehicle sales in Australia for 36 consecutive years and their range can be purchased with Jade Truck Loans’ competitive rate finance.

Isuzu topped total sales and both the medium and light duty segments with Kenworth the top selling brand in the heavy-duty segment. Overall, for 2024, sales of commercial vehicles hit a new record after two previous years of record sales. But sales reported for 2024 now include extra brands in Peugeot and LDV which can slightly skew the results when drawing comparisons.

While sales for the year were impressive in total, there were falls for some brands compared with 2023. For operators in the market for new vehicles reviewing models from the top selling brands may provide support for buying decisions.

Top Selling Truck Brands 2024

In total sales of commercial vehicles for 2024, the top three brands were Isuzu, Hino and Fuso, though all recorded a drop on 2023 sales. Next were Kenworth, Volvo, IVECO, Mercedes-Benz and Scania, with Mack and UD Trucks rounding out the top 10. Then came Fiat, DAF, MAN, Hyundai, Renault, Freightliner, Western Star, LDV, Ford and Volkswagen.

In the heavy-duty segment Kenworth once again leads in sales followed by Volvo and Isuzu. Impressive results were also posted by Hino with a nearly 11% jump in sales and IVECO with a just over 20% sales increase. MAN also recorded an impressive 32% sales increase and Western Star a nearly 29% uplift. Mack, UD, DAF and Freightliner all posted falls compared with 2023.

The versatile medium-duty segment was up 1.6% on 2023 results with the Japanese brands – Isuzu, Hino and Fuso, heading the sales charts, though all with sales drops. IVECO in fourth place posted a nearly 32% increase followed by Hyundai also with a good uplift of just over 38%. UD, Volvo, Mercedes, MAN and DAF rounded out the leading then in this segment.

The usually very popular light-duty segment posted the largest sales falls for the year. While the top three – Isuzu, Fuso and Hino, retained their dominance, all posted sales decreases compared with 2023. It was lower down the total sales where the big increases were recorded with IVECO, Fiat, Mercedes and Renault all recording gains.

Plenty of information for buyers to consider with their next purchase. But regardless of the brand being acquired, the financing must be workable and affordable to ensure the acquisition performs for the business.

Top-selling Brands incl Isuzu Finance Options

Financing for heavy vehicles is available with the operator’s choice of asset finance facilities which include Lease, Chattel Mortgage, Commercial Hire Purchase and Rent-to-Own. These facilities vary in their suitability for either the accruals or cash methods of accounting, how the asset is treated with the business balance sheet, how tax deductions are realised, and with the interest rate.

Businesses that prefer a major asset not be posted to their balance sheet can consider Lease and Rent-to-Own. Businesses using the cash method of accounting and looking for the lowest rates can consider Chattel Mortgage and Commercial Hire Purchase. Operators that use the accruals method of accounting, are okay with the asset posted to their balance sheet and want the lowest asset finance rates may consider Commercial Hire Purchase.
